mentalray calc

Is it possible to only calculate the light that is in the view (camera). I am vaguley familiar with how mentalray works but I was under the assumption that when it calculate the light in a scene Mentalray will calculate the light throughout the entire model. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Lamont,Go over to my site and grab my AU presentation. It has a pdf f my powerpoint which has a section on lighting that will break down how most of the modern rendering engines work. It may help you understand whats going on under the hood.
