Hello all,
We are running Acad 2007, a number of our team members are getting fatal errors on close of a drawing. Does anyone knhow to fix this issue or have an idea?
Thanks,
Andre

This is also happening to me on files that contain a large image.
Maybe it's a local virtual memory issue,
I don't know that much about virtual memory settings
I try to leave that to the IT guys.
However, whenever I check the file, after the crash
I find that it has been successfully saved with a file dated at
the exact time of the crash. And although my own
brain - type memory is sometimes limited to 5 minutes,
when I re-open the file, it is updated to what I saw on screen
at the time of the crash.
I PLEAD DUMBNITUDE !
and I defer to the greater experts

Sometimes, it happens to me, too. I'm running ACAD 2009. I think it's more of a problem with my machine, but I haven't had the chance to figure it out, yet.
My PC came with Win, 2000. ACAD 2009 won't run on that, so IT formatted my machine & loaded XP. It's been doing strange things in other programs, ever since.

if it is the same drawing that is causing the crash try recovering it or auditing the drawing. You may also want to do a repair on AutoCAD.
Hope this helps

My colleagues are getting this error on any DWG file, not just a particular one, just thought Id throw that out there.

I had an issue once where the drawing was created in an incompatible software than what I had been working in - took me forever to figure that one out. are these drawings from a client or were they created in your office?

Do these files contain images?
You may need to check if you have installed all the available hotfixes and service packs (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240618#section3)for your version.

The issue is not on certain DWGs. This is happening to them no matter which DWG file they are closing.

We had this exact problem, especially with our ABS 07 product.
I went to Autodesk's website and downloaded the hotfixes we were missing.
OOPS....this is for ABS/MEP:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240938
Here is plain ACAD:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240618
Specifically this one for ABS 07: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=8185238&linkID=9240938
You'll want this one for Acad 07: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=8185238&linkID=9240618
This took care of our closing out fatal error.

This is a real problem that needs to be resolved. I have researched many forums and AutoCAD discussion groups. No one is addressing the resolution of this problem. AutoCAD does not have a fix for it that I can see. I can save my drawing doing a QSAVE but then I cannot close it. AutoCAD crashes. I have to reopen AutoCAD and then the same thing happens when I open and work on another drawing. This is not the way to work. Very unproductive. This seems to be something that should have high priority for the developers at AutoCAD.

The problem with AutoCAD crashing when you close a drawing I found had to do with multiple copies of "Drawing1.dwg". You will need to search your computer to see if you have any of these. They were all named "Drawing1 recoverXXX.dwg". I deleted all of them, opened AutoCAD and then opened the "acad.dwt", clicked on the "X" to close, and answered "No" to "Do you want to save changes?" Everything is working fine again.
