Detail Component - won't display

I have edited this receptacle to have a hatched region with a nested detail component. The hatch shows up fine in the family but refuses to display in the project. I have tried the details with other families and they display fine in project. Any suggestions? :(

So the solution I found was to edit the annotation family instead of importing a detail component. Works like a charm - but still doesn't explain why the detail component isn't displaying.

For my own personal gratification, if anyone has the answer please enlighten me !!

You inserted the detail component at a view scale of 3"=1'-0" but you did not constrain it to the size of the receptacle symbol. When your view scale changes or when you load to your project, the size of the filled region changes and no longer matches the receptacle symbol, becoming too small to see. You should nest the detail to or create within the receptacle "annotation" family, so that it matches the scaling of the symbol. Then, as you have done already, nest the annotation family in the electrical device family. This will solve your problem.
