I came across this information today about Ecotect 2010 and was wondering if anyone has heard anything yet about upgrades and subscriptions for existing users?

Still no information, though I did find this information on the old SQ1 Ecotect site:
http://www.ecotect.com/products/ecotect/2009
2009 came out for a moment with less features that 5.6, no upgrade options and no network licensing!

I don’t currently use Ecotect but I have been meaning to learn it. It now appear that there are two flavors, Ecotect and Ecotect Analysis, but I can’t discern the difference.

Looks to me like Ecotect is the old software as purchased by Autodesk (and many others) from Square1. Autodesk Ecotect Analysis 2010 (shouldn't the word Autocad be used in there somewhere) is a "new" product which looks and acts like a new version of Ecotect but is "new" so you have to buy it all over again. Very clever those marketing people... I hope I'm wrong but so far my reseller hasn't been able to come up with any numbers for upgrading from Ecotect to Ecotect Analysis. Might be time to go back to IES.

Hey Andre,
Sorry for the radio silence, Greg over at the Revit3D blog (http://bimboom.blogspot.com/) kind of jumped the gun on the announcement before we had publicly announced anything.
You mean leaving existing customers with no upgrade path is not not a good experience? :p
As an existing license holder, you will have the opportunity to migrate to Autodesk Ecotect Analysis 2010 via a discounted pathway, as long as Ecotect Analysis 2010 is available in your area.
Ecotect Analysis 2010 was formally released last week, and is a boxed product that will be sold through our reseller channel, rather than on our eStore, like previous flavors of Ecotect. Purchase of Subscription entitles you to carry out whole building analysis on the Green Building Studio (Energy, Water, Carbon, etc).
It was only released to the North American market as well. We are evaluating expansion to other markets, but no public plans I can talk about here, sorry.
We are rolling out the migration plan, and perhaps your reseller hasn't been brought up to speed on the available options. Let me know where you're located, and I'll see if I can find you a reseller that can help you out.
Cheers,
Kyle B

Kyle,
Is there also an Ecotect 2010 (not Analysis)?
Is there still a network license available?
Out reseller is Imaginit so I'm sure they just don't have the numbers yet

Not currently.
Is there still a network license available?
Ecotect Analysis 2010 is sold exclusively with Network Licensing.

Sweet... while the new UI is getting a lot of attention, I'm looking forward to previews of my gbXML before exporting to a new and improved Ecotect.

So, owning a copy of Ecotect means I get to purchase 2010 at a discount, not simply pick up a subscription? I think we paid $2,700 online, for about six month of use to date.

So an originally Australian product is at this very moment not available to Australians????

Ecotect Analysis 2010 is not currently available in Australian market, you read my last post correct. This is primarily because of the availability of Australian weather data on the web-based Energy Analysis capability delivered with Ecotect Analysis subscription (you might know it as Green Building Studio). We chose not to launch the product without the ability to do analysis in the region of purchase.
There are additional considerations around bringing such a reseller channel product to a market, but they're not really the sort of "fun" stuff we talk about on our forums.
All is not lost, however. Global customers, such as yourself, are welcome to purchase online (http://autodesk.plimus.com/buyecotect2009.html) copies of Ecotect 2009 (http://www.autodesk.com/ecotect). Now before you get all concerned about release year in this situation, the primary difference between these products from a capability perspective is the integration with the Green Building Studio web-based Energy Analysis.
Full discolsure, as I mentioned previously, Ecotect Analysis 2010 is currently offered only with Network Licensing. Ecotect 2009 is currently only offered online with Standalone licensing.
All make sense?

Perfectly thanks for the reply, I was thinking it was a very short cycle between the two packages :)

Kyle,
I currently have Ecotect 5.60 and GBS corporate license. What will my migration path be in order to consolidate and still be able to use all of the GBS features that were entailed under corporate licensing? When asking my subscription support they requested my GBS serial number, which I found kind of amusing. Will ADSK come up with something tangible that will clearly describe the migration path, as well as, not look like a highway robbery at the same time.

Tomislav

Hello Tomislav,
As Kyle already mentioned, as an existing license holder, you will have the opportunity to migrate to Autodesk Ecotect Analysis 2010 at a deep discount. Ecotect Analysis, with subscription, includes Green Building Studio.
If you don't want to upgrade your Ecotect license, but wish to maintain your Green Building Studio account, you can, for a limited time, still purchase Green Building Studio through the e-store. There is no immediate plan to end the sale of stand-alone access to Green Building Studio through the e-store, but I expect it may go the way of the Dodo bird before too long.
Hope this helps since you are one of our valued early adopters!
Best,
Marjorie Stein

Finally heard back from our reseller and there is no upgrade path if you purchased Ecotect before Autodesk did. You can upgrade from Ecotect 2009, just not prior versions.

Kyle:
Direct quote from my reseller:
There appears to be no upgrade path for Ecotect 5.6. However, if you need a new license of Ecotect it now includes GBS at no additional charge.

Well, it would appear to be incorrect information. I'll send you a Private Message to help get things straightened out.

Kyle, thanks for straightening things out, though I dare say there may be a lot of cases like this. My reseller pointed the blame upstream and said that we were far from the only ones with this issue.

Kyle,
When did ADSK advertise and at the same token stop their upgrade promo path from 5.5 to 2010 Ecotect analysis. I got a quote from me reseller and now apparently there is a full price to pay of some $2400 and $800 for the subscription if one is to upgrade the existing Ecotect.
This does make no sense. The existing users were not notified, some of our GBS licenses are truncated and not enabling a reasonable transition path it doesn't seem to be fair, at least.
Can someone at Autodesk take a second look into Ecotect transition and upgrade policy?

Tomislav

Tomislav,
Our sales team did e-mail blasts and a phone campaign to contact all existing US users who did not specifically opt out of Autodesk sales lists. That covered the vast majority of users and we worked with them to move through the upgrade path.
There certainly wasn't an effort to purposely leave folks out in the cold on this one.
Sounds like you were in the "opt out" group. I'm tracking down the Autodesk Territory Manager in St Louis for you, he/she should be able to assist you here. Stay tuned.
Cheers,
Kyle B

Hello
I'm in China, One of my friends want to buy ecotect 2010, I know there are two ways buying ecotect: online shop or resllers. I want to know if there is difference, the resellers's price is several times(a monthes ago, The reseller's price of 2009 is over 20,000RMB($2500), but the price in online shop is about $900) to online price, but not giving more technical support.
