Hello All,

This is my first post, so hope you guys can help.

Basically I produce a lot of long sections, I have managed to get civil 3D to automate almost everything, but there is one thing that can turn 5 minute edits into a whole day.

On my profile Views I have a topography band set this is a blank band set, and I manually put text in this band set space that signifies if my alignment is currently in a field or a road etc. The way I do this is by running an enquiry on my alignment finding the exact chainage my alignment crosses onto a field the chainage it exits the field and adding this to my band set. As you can imagine this is very time consuming especially if the alignment changes and the chainages of my dumb text become wrong and I have to go through the process again.

I was thinking maybe I could use parcels or boundaries but I can't seem to get the information to display on my profile.

How about using Pipe Networks and adding structures to the band? Have a network for a field, road, etc. and add the Network Name to the Band which would put field in the band if the structure belonged to the Field Network. Just an idea I haven't tried actually tried it.

I was thinking along the same lines as Chris but with super elevation data. Only problem is, it's station based and not NE based. Perhaps when 2010 comes out you'll be able to project things onto a profile. One can only hope...

The thought had crossed my mind to use pipe networks, i thought i would be able to use this method for displaying where the boundaries change on the profile, so i wouldnt have to run an inquiry on the allignment to get the chainages. I had sort of dissmissed being able to use this data in my profile bandset, but from what you guys say it maybe possible. 30km water main is the next project i am working on, its well worth me spending a day creating pipe networks if i can get it to work. Ill update on any progress
