I am new to Civil3D 2009 and have been asked to create a *.tin file from an DWG to be imported into another software. I have a TIN surface created in my DWG file using Civil3d, but cannot figure out how to get that surface to be exported/saved as a separate *.tin file. Can this be done? Any help would be great...thanks.
Do you know what software they are using?
Land Desktop uses .tin files, but it is only one part of the surface, and without the rest of the files, the LDT .tin file wouldn't do any good. Plus, C3D can't create those files (although you could always do it in Land Desktop Companion).
The usual way of sharing data like this is LandXML, although if the person on the other end has software that is too old, it might not be able to handle LandXML. In that case, we usually send a DWG with the TIN triangles in it (use Surface -> Utilities -> Extract objects to extract the triangles).

What software program are you exporting to?
Will it not accept a DEM or LandXML file?

The ultimate destination of the surface is ArcView GIS 3.3.

Export the surface as a DEM.
ArcGIS will easily import that format.

Hi !
I have a TIN surface made from google earth whithin Civil 3D.
How can I export it ( by cloud of points in cvs or by level curves ib dwg or whatever) into Revit architecture?
Well both are Autodesk ! should be somehow a solution ?
Thanks in advance
Take care

Dume,
You'll have to create a drawing that contains the surface and then extract the triangles. You can then import the drawing (or do whatever Revit does to bring drawings in) and then create a topo from the triangles.
