Parametizing a flip control?
I'm using a family type parameter to select shared frame types in a door family. I'd like my frame w side-lite to be able to flip to either side of my swing door so that the side of the lite and the side of the swing operation are options. i don't want to bog down my template with 2 options Lite Left and Lite Right. any ideas on ways to achieve this?
Re: Parametizing a flip control?
You could use visibility parameters.
Re: Parametizing a flip control?
I could do that, but that means double the geometry in the family. trying to keep things light
Re: Parametizing a flip control?
Offset a reference plane to either the right or left of your door opening by X feet. Use a length offset parameter to control the location of a set of reference planes that the side lite is attached to. This will allow you to control where the side lite lands on the door family without having to worry about negative values, etc.

Visibility Parameters with a Yes/No Condition Formula...
Example: Parameter = [Left Sidelight] Formula = [Not(Right Sidelight)]
Re: Parametizing a flip control?
thanks, thats a clever idea. i'll try it out
Re: Parametizing a flip control?
if(Sidelite Hinge, Door Frame Width + Sidelite Width_Hinge Side, 0')
i used this, and it worked nicely... opposite params for the the latch side
Re: Parametizing a flip control?
I have a similar question/issue... I'd like to be able to have a flip control for geometry that is a family type parameter. In other words, when a piece of geometry is mirrored, if it isn't symmetrical, then it is inherently a new piece of geometry (unlike moving or rotating, for instance). Hence, I want to be able to quickly mirror objects, but make sure that when that happens, Revit automatically knows that the mirrored one is not the same as the original, and for instance, would have a different type mark. Any ideas? Kind of frustrated that this isn't an easy, default capability - unless I'm just completely missing something easy and obvious...
