HVAC Duct takeoff not centered about branch
Hi,
Looking at the attached image, the first case is a takeoff pointing down attached to the main duct in light blue.
The second image is what I would like to do (edited graphically in MS Paint to demonstrate the desired end result): have the takeoff not centered about the duct to which it is connected. Is this possible? Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks,
Paul

Hey Paul,
I don't think there is an easy way to do what you want. If you go to the "duct fitting properties", and then the "Anchor" tab, you can change the location in the "x" (along the duct), but not the "y".
One option would be to create a new parametric fitting that allows for a "y" variable that the user can change. If I had a clone I have him to make you one... but sorry - no clone yet.

This seems to work, give it a try (see screenshot for clarification):
1. create a duct (32x16)
2. click on "Takeoff" from the HVAC Tool Palette to add a beveled tap (14x14)
3. modify the fitting properties of that tap and go to the "Takeoff Position" tab
4. change the Side to be "Top" (or "Bottom") and the offset to be "6" (or whatever)
5. add duct to the tap

Re: HVAC Duct takeoff not centered about branch
Buzz,
Works beautifully in 2008 and 2009! I couldn't get it to work upon initally adding the takeoff, but simply right clicking the takeoff and selecting 'duct fitting properties' did the trick.
Thanks,
Paul

Perhaps I am missing something. This is something that I would like to be able to do but don't see it working in 2008. When I bring up the properties of the duct fitting, all I can do is adjust the distance from the ends.
How is this done in 2008?
Thank you
Re: HVAC Duct takeoff not centered about branch
Same situation here, using AMEP 2008:
I have an existing takeoff which shows the 'anchor' tab, instead of the 'takeoff position' tab as is needed to offset the takeoff as desired.
If I add a new takeoff from the fittings tool palette, then it has the 'takeoff position' tab.
Both fittings have similar names (Rectangular Duct Beveled Tap US Imperial).
Any suggestions? Deleting and adding each takeoff is not really a practical solution.
Thanks,
Paul
