Re: Worksets & Relinquishing
Yea, I thought about using an IM setup but the boss made it very clear that IM programs WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!! He feels they are the root of all viruses in teh world, or something like that. Fun stuff when the guy "responsible" for the IT stuff doesn't have any say or control over the IT stuff. :banghead:

@Cliff - I agree. Proper communication, good strategy and weekly meetings would be the way to go. I pushed for it VERY hard. Unfortunately, I don't get to make that call. "Upper" management feels it's a waste of time. You know how it goes. We say "We're doing BIM" but in reality "we" don't know what that means outside of owning a box that says Revit on it. :?
This is sad news indeed. You have two choices here, make your boss read this article here on AUGI:
http://www.augi.com/library/bim-vs-communication
and point out the bit that says: "If our communication skills were poor before BIM, then BIM only serves to enhance our disability." If you boss concedes great, if not you'll just have to get a different job, one where you can DO BIM, not just pretend to do BIM.

AGREED! And, I'm working on it! ;)
Re: Worksets & Relinquishing
The reason most offices don't allow messaging clients is when MSN and AOL made it possible to send files to other people....besides worrying about people sending proprietary info to another person, it was incoming security as well (trojans, viruses, etc) that could harm the internal network.

Bingo! But it seems like the reality is that those same viruses could come from someone's email when they open those NSFW jokes that do every time too. Just saying.

Ditto this. Why the SWC dialog box always has User Created Worksets UNchecked by default is beyond me. Super annoying, especially when I'm trying to save an incremental version of a file by opening a Detached version, which automatically checks out all worksets to me, and then I have to remember to do a SWC and release those worksets AFTER doing the Save As command.
