Any way to base roof only off exterior of core?

I am fairly new to Revit, the one thing I have been having problems with is the roofs. As I am adding or modifying wall components (stucco, shingle etc.) it is causing my roof to explode, with many many join errors. I traced it down to moving the roof "base" over the new exterior finish material. the roof is very complex, which is a major pain and takes quite a while to bring the roof back into its correct position. The wall sheathing and exterior finish materials are put outside the core of the wall with the stud being the only item within the core. Is it possible to have the roof based only on the core and not the exterior finish?

When creating the roof by foot print, use the pick wall tool and check the box "extend into core".
