Drawing 3D tapering curves
I'm somewhat new to the world of 3D in AutoCAD and I'm having trouble figuring out how to draw a tapering curve.
I've attached pictures of what I'm trying to draw and what I have so far. I need to figure out how to draw the sloping curved front face of the hood. The front and sides slope towards the middle but the back is flat. Any hints on how to proceed?

You can extrude with an angle. So you could draw the "footprint" of the hood, extrude it up with a desired angle like 15 degrees or something, that would at least make the bottom part.

Ok, I played with it and came close. I did it in three pieces. Create the footprint of the hood, copy to an elevation where the hood starts to slope. Create the upper pipe part of the hood footprint. Extrude the first footprint up to the second footprint, Extrude the second footprint up with a taper (I used 20 degrees) to a point beyond the footprint of the upper pipe, and finally extrude the pipe foot print to the desired height. Then "union" all of it.

Ok, even closer. I made the sloped hood part much bigger than it had to be so I could "slice" off the tapered back part so it will be flat. The yellow rectangle was my "slice" object.

Great, that looks very close. Thanks for the help! The slicing rectangle was the trick I was looking for. What commands did you use to slice the extruded solid?
I'll play around with it some more to see if I can get it perfect.

There's SLICE or, maybe, SUBTRACT another solid.

I would use Loft to create at least part of this geometry.

I have attached a model of what I think you are after.
Let me know & I will explain how I did it - Its a very crude looking model, which can easily be smatened up. I didn't have time to do a proper model!

Yup, what jaberwok said. ^^^^
I used the "slice" command. Just to be on the safe side, I select the "keep both sides" option and erase the side I don't want.

I've always found that the safest way. Slightly slower but ...
