Trim/Extend and results checking

Someone please answer my following questions
How to use options like trim and extend in ROBOT, does the application's concept is similar to what is in AUTOCAD or not.
I was modelling a steel frame but I didn't really know how to check my results based on ASD and LRFD methods, please tell me how to do so and how to set preliminary parameters. and if there is a manual I' ll be grateful if you name it.
How failure of a profile is shown in ROBOT is it color based like ETABS and SAP or something else
And for the last question, Is it obligatory to set a section's profile like IPE and so on before analyzing or basic drew lines will suffice
