AutoCAD - 2012 - Heidi Driver Crash
Ok so I'm running AutoCAD 2012 (Vanilla) on:
Quote:
Machine Configuration
---------------------
Dell Optiplex 980
Intel Core i7 CPU
Processor Speed : 2.8 GHz
RAM 4G
32 Bit System
Windows 7 Opsys
Video Card:
Name : ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series
Manufacturer : ATI
Chip set : Radeon HD 3400 Series
Memory : 1749 MB
Driver : 8.17.0010.1070
Usually 2 to 3 times a week the driver crashes stating:
"The configured Heidi Driver cannot be loaded.".
Any ideas?
Re: AutoCAD - 2012 - Heidi Driver Crash
The Autodesk forums have some people with the same issue but no solutions.

Yes I have the same issue. Very annoying!

No luck yet just boiler plate responses from Autodesk:

I understand that when launching AutoCAD 2012, it shows the error "Heidi Module Load Error. The configured Heidi driver cannot be loaded. Switching to default software driver."
Heidi errors like this have to do with the video driver on your system. Often simply uninstalling and reinstalling the video driver will fix the problem. Aside from getting the current driver from the manufacturer's web site, you can also check your video card and driver against those that we have tested and certified:

Sometimes the latest video driver available from the manufacturer is not the latest one that we have tested. For the reinstall process, I would recommend uninstalling your current video driver, reboot, install the driver again (or an updated version), and reboot once more.
Another cause of the Heidi error could be your printer driver. Try changing the default printer driver on your system and then launch AutoCAD to see if the error occurs.
If reinstalling the video driver or changing the default printer does not fix the problem and if you can get into AutoCAD and enter the 3DCONFIG command, hit the Manual Tune button in the window that comes up and then turn off Enable Hardware Acceleration. If you cannot get into AutoCAD, try turning off video hardware acceleration in the Windows display settings or add a /nohardware switch to the AutoCAD shortcut. Here is an article about using the /nohardware switch:

Please let me know if this resolves the issue.

From Autodes Support:

Thank you for choosing Autodesk Support.
I understand that if the computer is locked, goes to sleep, or the screen saver becomes active, AutoCAD 2012 shows the message "The configured Heidi driver cannot be loaded. Switching to default software driver."
This warning message is actually by design. I can make it happen on my system and I have a certified video card. When the computer sleeps or the screen saver turns on, the video mode changes. This can cause a problem for AutoCAD if it is running. The program switches things to prevent a crash.
Try setting the desktop theme to Windows Basic. Not having Aero active may stop the message from occurring.
Updating to the latest video driver or the latest driver that we have tested may also help. Here is our graphics hardware list:

Installing DirectX may help too:

Turning off hardware acceleration in 3DCONFIG inside AutoCAD may also prevent it from happening.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.
