Pipe elbow going wrong direction
I would like to know if this is just an isolated instance or if everyone deals with this.
This is a pipe reducing short tee (OOTB).
Does anyone know why it models the fitting backwards.
Horizontal pipe
If I model from the top of the pipe it assumes the flow to go right.
If I model from the bottom of the pipe it assumes the flow to go left.
Vertical pipe
If I model from the right of the pipe it assumes the flow to go down.
If I model from the left of the pipe it assumes the flow to go up.
Once those down syndrome fittings are in, forget about modifying them.
I have to mirror the correct one to get it on the other side.
See attached

Re: Pipe elbow going wrong direction
Is your pipe connected to a source (I.E. a pump)? What if you connected the pipe to a source then added the fitting? You would think it would/should be smart enough to know the direction of flow based on the equipment that the pipe is attached to. Just thinking out loud.

Re: Pipe elbow going wrong direction
Do the fittings have an angle parameter that you can change to get them to look correct again, for example a parameter that is set to 135 degrees that you can change to 45 degrees?

It has no affect. As you might not have noticed I have the pipes capped. I doesn't matter if they are connected to equipment/in systems, routing solutions even does it wrong.

It does. I have to disconnect the branch line first, than it allows me to change the angle and than flip it. After I do this and reconnect/remodel the branch it goes back to the original 135 degree.

Wha....
Re: Pipe elbow going wrong direction
I looked at the fitting (2009 part I think, discontinued in later libraries)
seems like you may need to change how you make this intersection, for example, if you trim the incoming branch and the main, then change the resulting elbow to a tee with the addition grip this seems to work...
Not a great answer regarding that particular fitting and its issues, but sometimes its best to just ignore why Revit doesnt do something and work with how it can model it for you!!
Example image attached...
EDIT: Image should say change into tee not change into elbow
Good luck

Re: Pipe tee going wrong direction
That doesn't work.
There is something wrong with this tee.
I'm going to go through and revamp.
Re: Pipe elbow going wrong direction
That happens all the to me all the time. That fitting seems to prefer that impossible configuration. I have all but given up on finding a "fix". I keep hoping "Maybe The Next Release!"
Re: Pipe elbow going wrong direction
I ran into the same problem, and at least from what my intent was, it has to do with trying to make a fitting work that wasn't intended to be used that way. Like the OP, I wanted to connect with a "wye" fitting, but the settings for the pipe types are not extensive enough to allow you to set a default "wye" connection, and "wyes" are not available to select from the "tees". The san tee will allow that "wye" type connection, but as the OP shows, it doesn't always work.
We purchased some third party families a while back and one of the things I noticed is that when selecting the default "tee" for a pipe type, the third party "wye" fittings were available to choose from. Problem solved.
I don't know enough about family creation to say for sure, but it appears that the OOTB "wye" fittings might be able to be modified to be able to show up with the "tee" fittings, so you can select that connection by default for that pipe type.
Re: Pipe elbow going wrong direction
You can. You just have to go to the Family Category and Parameters of the family and change the part type to a tee instead of wye. Now you have that option as a fitting in your Pipe Props.
This isn't the issue. The issue is the flow direction. The "WYE" works only in 1 direction.
