What are the difference between AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT
Can anyone tell me the difference between AutoCAD 2008 and AutoCAD 2008 LT version.
LT is different than normal version. LT has all the future like normal AutoCAD there is a lots of comparision of price also. why?
We have a AutoCAD 2002 but our boss tells me to upgrade it to 2008 but its price is to high for our company. I am looking for the difference betwn these AutoCADs.

Hello Avinash,
This following list is not an exhaustive list of differences, but it may give you a quick idea: The LT version stands for 'Lite' so certain elements have been turned off. No 3d, poor image support, no rendering, no custom LISP routines (has improved CUI customisation though), no sheet manager.

I use LT 2008, it's has lots of new functions which you do not have in the full version of Autocad 2002; such as dynamic blocks, new express tool commands, improved dimensioning, mtext (also for Attributes), better plotting of line-weights. In all if like me you have a tight budget, and don't actually require the commands that have been turned off LT is a good compromise.
Once you have learned the new commands you will be more efficient than with the 2002 software. That way you do more work, your boss makes more money and next year he buys you the full version of Autocad 2008. ;)
ps My thanks to Filipe for that link, I've learnt from it. :)

Express Tools in 2008LT?
Is anyone here able to confirm that?

Not sure about '08, but in '07 they did add the layer express tools, such as layer freeze, layer off, layer walk, etc.. They are not necessarily "express tools" though. Yes they are the same tools but, just as in the full version, they have been made a part of the main ACAD LT menu (in full they removed them from express and moved them to the main ACAD menu).
I suppose they could have added more in '08 but I doubt it. And still no LISP, I doubt we'll EVER see it in LT.
**EDIT**
After reading over the new features in '08 it appears they DID NOT add anymore express tools still just the same as mentioned above.

Express Tools requires the use of LISP and LT does not include Express Tools.
You can use a aplication like "LTXpress Tools" http://www.hot4cad.com/download.html (search in google but not tested)

LT gives the user the basics. It has been good enough for some associates at my company. It has mostly been given to program managers. All design associates have
been given the full version without a second thought.

The AutoDesk document linked by Filipe in the second post states that 2008LT has/supports/whatever "Express Tools" This is, at best, misleading.

Hi all,
Now we are getting back to the old chestnut; Third-Party applications extending LT by switching on code which Autodesk has deliberately disabled. :|

and that, since the code is there at all, LT (as opposed to full acad) is purely a marketing-led ploy and that cost\ability comparisons are pointless.
