RHS/SHS beam with edge plate
hi guys,
I have to use RHS/SHS beam with edge plate to support a slab, but I could not find such beam in Revit Structure and Robot. I have attached a picture of it. Is there any way possible to use such a beam, so both Revit and Robot recognise it.

Re: RHS/SHS beam with edge plate
you will need to make your own built-up member using the two elements in two steps, first the RHS shape and then the plate placed at bottom you should be able to find both of these two elements in the standard Revit family libraries. You could make a special custom beam family to combine the two together. I am not a Robot user, but I question if it would be wise to put effort into trying feed the built-up section properties into Robot for design. I have used some design programs that do have methods to input section properties for special built-up members. But I assume that this will be an eccentric load applied to this member and will require special torsional design of this member, I would be careful here. Maybe a Robot user can step in to give you some help here.
Re: RHS/SHS beam with edge plate
As far as I know, at this point, there is no convenient way to facilitate round-tripping of custom built-up sections between Revit and Robot. You can manage this yourself of course but it's not automated. I could be totally wrong here because the Revit-Robot link surprises me quite often with its capabilities. However, Robot can definitely manage the custom section in terms of creating and analyzing the section properties as well as using it in the analysis and design (with some limitations). See my post in the Robot Structural Analysis forum for some images of that.
