    Default 2010 Ribbon question

I'm using Civil 3D 2009, type most of my commands use about 5 toolbars and have not been using the ribbon (I'm not so sure I like it yet). I've heard I need to get used to the Ribbon for the new release. Where will I find the object snaps now? 1/3 of the icons don't show up in the panels, Maybe it's there and I haven't found it.

If I remember correctly the osnaps are not in the ribbon. The osnap toolbar is still in the acad.cui.

I was told we won't have a tool bar....only the Ribbon.

Please Please Please tell me we still have toolbars and essintially nothing looks like it changed (after you minimize the ribbon)

In vanilla acad you can switch to the "classic" workspace and get rid of the ribbon. Does that apply to Civil?

They aren't there but it wasn't too bad to add in, I just added them to the draw panel,

Using the ribbon in Civil 3D 2009 is not recommend. The ribbon wasn't finished for C3D and there are issues with using it.

As far as I know all of the AutoCAD toolbars are still there. The Acad.cui is loaded as a partial to Civil so all of those toolbars are available in C3D. However, most of the C3D toolbars are gone. The only ones left are the Transparent Command and Transparent Command Filters toolbars.

To open a toolbar when none are visible I use the -toolbar command. You can turn on all of the toolbars or turn on one with a short name like "draw". Once you open a toolbar and dock it you can use the right-click to open additional toolbars from any of the loaded CUIs.

Does anyone know a better way, other than -toolbar, to open a toolbar if none are open?

All of the workspaces in C3D 2009 have the ribbon turned off and have some toolbars on. All of the workspaces that ship with C3D 2010 have the ribbon turned on an have no toolbars active.

This is a good approach if you want to add them to the ribbon. This is what I would probably do. But as I mentioned above you can still use the acad toolbars.

What issues have you heard of? I've been using the Ribbon in 2009 for a year and haven't had any problems. Granted, I don't use it often since the C3D 2009 ribbon only had AutoCAD commands on it but it is on in my workspace.

Now that I think of it, we did have some issues with the context sensitive ribbons like for mtext editing. We had to change a variable to make it work correctly but I don't recall what it was.

Those were the same issues I was having. The context ribbon for the block editor didn't want to work right, and would have to turn the ribbon off before using the editor. Plus had issues with adding several new tabs and panels. Tried creating panels for all the C3D tools.

Also in the discussion groups one of the Autodesk guys stated there were issues and didn't recommend using it. Tried to find the post but didn't see it.

I did not try to do any customization so that's why I probably did not see as many issues as you. It is my understanding the the latest updates resolved a lot of the issues with customizing the ribbon.
