    Default dependent view not updating

Is there a setting to ensure a dependent view updates automatically when changes are made to parent view?

I have 3 levels, foundation , mezzanine and roof framing.

When changes are made to parent view the child(dependent views are not updating.

    has anyone heard of this?

    many thanks
    joe

Something doesn't sound right. What isn't "updating"? If you're expecting reference section mark extents and grid lines to change when you edit the 2D extents in another parent/child view, then keep in mind that that behavior is view specific.

    thanks for the reply

I added surface pattern to the mezzanine slabs and revealed some trusses

attached are two files, area a mezz is the main view

area a mezz dep view is the view that is placed on the sheet

I guess i was wrong thinking the dependent view would be a carbon copy of the main view. So i guess either edit both views or create a new dependent view each time to make sure the plot sheet is current.

I was hoping it would function as xref's do in autocad.

I could use any tips to eliminate any double work if you have them

    many thanks

It would seem that perhaps you copied your main view rather than duplicating as dependant. So at one time they matched but now differ. Check your Project Browser and review the plan view hierarchy. The main view should have a [+] and expand showing the area (dependant) view.

    jcapp,

Most likely you have created the views correctly but you will need a different approach to assign the pattern.

Dependant views to not carry surface patterns applied by overriding the individual element within the host view or a seperate dependant view.
Instead create a filter to apply the surface pattern and that will translate to the other views as necessary.
