Default Importing Autocad 3d models into Revit

How do you import a 3d Solid model created in Autocad. Not flat 2d dwgs. but the 3d solid model which one can render in Revit or apply materials to etc.

you simply import as a cad file.. but it is important that you assign names to all the layers as these are the source of defining material definitions within revit... go to object styles in revit and adjust the layer names imported to the material you wish to see rendered... unless you define the objects in autocad with the unique layer names you will not be able to define materials in revit.

    hope this helps

I tried that and it did not work-hence the question in the Forum.

The imported .dwg file can't have any mesh types in the object (faces, surfaces). It has to be only a solid. Typically you would import the .dwg into a Revit family first, than import the Revit family into the project.

You can try to import the file into Revit as a mass in sketch mode.

Also the dwg can't have any, 3rd party lisp stuff that was used to create the solid. I have had issues with 3rd party apps that create MEP objects.

Post the .dwg file so we can help you or PM me and I will help.

So... this is how Acad and Revit work well together...

@Husom : What is it that you can't do in Revit? I don't use Revit modeling tools so I would like to know what stopped you from using them....

Well then I really need your help. I am so desperate that I made an account. I tried editing an Egg chair which seems to only be in 3max format or sketchup so I can never edit the materials in revit. can you please help me. I will PM if I can

What i do in this case is to import the model to an empty new revit file. So you can go to Materials and more easily found the material(s) of the family. It usually has names like "Render Material 100-100-100". The numbers correspond to RGB color.
