    Question Modular Project

Has anyone completed a modular project using Revit. My firm is currently working on a project that requires a building to be constructed with prefabricated living units. We are to show all site built elements as well as factory built elements. My main concern is how to generate schedules since I will have multiple files open. Currently I have three different buildings along with 10 different units occuring over 4 levels. So for each building and unit I have a rvt. file. How do I coordinate all of the elements that I need to show on a single schedule.

What you could do is create a Generic Family of each module and then put them together as Lego.
I am doing something similar but for Precast Beams and Double Tee’s. I create the beams and Slab panels as Generic Beam Families and then lay them out. The reason I am trying the this approach is that we will shop detail them later on.

    Cheers,

For examples of modular projects, check with Marmol Radziner Architects, and Kerien Timberlake Architects. Both do modular prefab/shop built designs and use Revit for designs.

You can schedule across linked files, so all that you need to show in a single schedule can be shown by linking your files into a master file, and then create your schedules. Be sure to check the box "Schedule items in linked files."

What about creating model groups of the framing information contained in the Individual unit plans. Generally we are not concerned with the "quantity takeoff" but for arguments sake would inserting the model groups for each unit on a connection plan for the entire building result in double counting?

Just to be sure that I am understanding correctly I can link in all of my individual unit information into my site plans (the entire building). Would this be recommended instead of creating model groups?
