Default RVT links unloading by themselves!

    Folks,
I'm working on a job where the arch linked in file is unloading by itself whenever I open up a new window or load/unload a workset.
So I have to go to Manage Links and reload the file constantly.

    Anybody have any ideas?
    Cheers,

What software and Web Update are you on? We found this problem on 2009 prior to WU#3. Haven't seen it since WU#3 was released though.

    We're using 2009 x64 with the SP3.
It wasn't doing it up until a few days ago.
    Really baffled by this.

I'm assuming your worksets are not the problem... Are your links absolute path types?

    No, it's not the worksets.
I've tried both for the links, absolute and relative.

If you look at the Mange Links dialog it says your link is Unloaded?
What Workset is the linked file on?

How many people are working on the project? At least a couple? I've seen the following scenario before but I can't say what causes it to occur specifically because my attempts to replicate it haven't produced the condition. That said I've used the following below to "correct" what is described.

When you unload a link and STC the central file unloads the link "too". Then when other users use STC the link is unloaded for them as well. Here's where it gets weird...when you reload the link and then STC you expect that it will update the central and therefore each other user will also have the link "restored". Well they don't. Unloading the link and Reloading the link are not "equal" in the STC transaction. I don't know if they are supposed to be or not but they are not. Revit "wants" us to each reload a link when we want it "back" even though "we" may not have wanted it unloaded in the first place.

In order to reestablish the "priority" of the link being reloaded it needs to be reloaded in the central file itself, because when someone else uses STC the central file still has the link unloaded and that is propagated to the local file(s).

Once that is done the rest of the team needs to reload latest and possibly reload the link too. Once everyone has the link loaded...don't unload it again! Use a separate workset to control its visibility. Close or turn of the workset instead. Workset changes are updated in both directions during STC whereas unloading and reloading do not.

[Edit: I seem to recall that different builds were present on the pc's in use for at least one project I encountered this on.]
