Default Importing/Creating linework form GIS Data

I am looking for help on how to Import or Create property lines in AutoCAD from parcel information that I received form the county GIS department. I am using them in a demonstration purpose and have created a .dwg to use them in an Xref them into the main .dwg. There are a few different formats that I have received from the GIS department (.dbf .sbn .sbx .shp .shx) and I have drug and dropped the .shx into ArcExplorer 2 to view the parcel information. I have also tried to use the commands LOAD and Shape to bring them in to AutoCAD but get an error message the says "Font/Shape file can not exceed 64 characters". Any information in in this mater would be helpful. Thanks, Cameron.

Have you tried placing the data on your C drive with a short folder name and bringing it in from there? Once you get it in, you can export it out as a dwg in the folder of your choice.

From your post it would appear that you actually need MAP.
Within MAP you would be able to directly import many of the industry
standard export formats for GIS data. Unless they are giving you
coordinates of the lot lines, or DXF information, I don't see you being
able to use that data in regular AutoCAD.

Thanks for the replies, I do have MAP and have created a drawing just for this import in my Land Projects .dwg folder just for this that I have opened and tried the import command with no luck. This command requires a (.wmf, .sat, .3ds.) format. I also tried to put the .shx file that I got from the GIS department on my c drive, copied it, and renamed it 101304.shx and then tried the load command in Land Desktop and received the same "Font/Shape file can not exceed 64 characters" error message that came up last time. Any more information on the subject would help. Thanks again for your help, Cameron

    Cameron,

The issue here is that INPORT is an AutoCAD command,
we need to use the MAP commands when doing GIS work.

From your MAP menu pull down, find Tools>
    Then select Import....
Browse to the location of your file with the
correct Files of Types set, or chose all files.
NOTE: that from this import menu you have access
to most common forms of GIS data.

That worked great. I would have never thought that typing in the command IMPORT in MAP would be different than the pulldown menu. Thanks again for all you help, Cameron.
