    Cool Dimension Style text layout

When I modify my dimension style to show millimeters as my primary units and inches as my alternate units, I want it to show 1038,8mm(40.896) but what I get is 1038,MM [40,896]. Does anyone know of a way to make the dimension do this automatically or do I have to manually change it each time. See attached image.

This is my boss' preferred style and is how it has been done here forever.

    Thanks,

Just a stab, but go to your modify dimension style box, then click on modify.
Under the Primary Units tab, under Linear Dimensions you will see a box to choose your Decimal separator. Change it to a period instead of a comma.

    that should do it.

Cool Re: Dimension Style text layout

Thanks for the reply. That will change the comma to a period for both dimensions. What the boss wants is to have a comma for the primary (metric) units and a period for the alternate (english) units. He also wants to have parenthesis around the alternate units instead of square brackets.

Oh, I missed that. Well, I think you're outta luck, my friend. Unless someone could write a lisp routing of some sort for ya.

    Thanks,
You must be talking about board drafting?
Because if it's "been done forever" you wouldn't having this problem.

I don't think you can achieve what you want with AutoCAD and keep the dimensions intact and associative.

The only thing I can think of is to explode the dimensions and edit the brackets to parenthesis (etc)

Or set DIMASO to "off" (which leaves an exploded dimension)

Cool Re: Dimension Style text layout

    Thanks for the help.

I printed out the samples and told my boss that it couldn't be done while keeping the associativity and he said that it looked fine. So it all good.

You can keep the associativity by adding a field into the dimtext (see attached). But to make it easier, I'd advise a LISP or such to create the field. Also the field will only update after some sort of regen.
