Default Template or filter to use in Linked Structural File

I am not sure on how to search here for this so I will just ask. I want make a template to use in the Architectural Sections, details, plans etc to show only a certain portion on the structural model. For this project the structure to be seen will be foundation walls, footings, trusses and a stair. I want to have everything turned off in every view then when I need more turned off I can go into vg and do that. Is this the right approach or do I have to do it in every view I have? I do have templates for my architectural views but never messed with other disciplines this way. Thanks.

In your architectural template, add a small link. Start by creating a very simple .rvt file. I use a 50 x 50 floor slab, nothing more than that. Name it something obvious, like LinkFileforArchTemplate.rvt. Save it somewhere safe where you won't forget about it.

Next, link this file into the template as a place holder. Doing this will add visibility graphics for linked files to the view template. They would have otherwise not have been there. You can now set the linked file visibilities in the template. Make your model file using the template. Make sure you do not remove the link from the template before you actually insert the structural link into the new model, or you will lose the settings. After you have inserted the architectural link, you can remove the place holder link.

Thanks, I finally figured it out after a half hour of posting. I do like the idea about making a small file then deleting after linked. Thanks for the quick replies guys
