    Default Selective Clashing

    Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a way to clash only select areas of a model? We're working on a hospital and due to construction schedule issues, we need to "shift gears" and focus on one half of the building, even though on a couple floors we've got trades who are drawn throughout the whole floor.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

    Eric

Include only the area of the model you need to clash against in a saved selection set.

Robert posted the elegant solution - create selection sets of objects of interest within Navisworks and clash check the selection sets.

Another method is to make copies of whole floor CAD files. Delete all objects outside of the area of interest and clash check the modified CAD files in Navisworks. This method is also useful on extremely large projects where enormous file sizes cause computer performance degradation.

Another way to do this is to add a custom property to all objects in a particular zone in the CAD (e.g. Zone: A), and then use this as criteria for a search set in Navis. Once you have the search sets you set up your clash batches using these. That way you can be sure that all objects belonging to the zone will be included in the clash batch between model updates. This of course requires your modelers to be consistent with assigning the "zone" property in CAD.

    Yet another solution...

    1. Create a viewpoint using the sectioning tool (box) to show only the area in question.
    2. Select the area using the "Select Box" tool.
    3. In the clash results under display, check "Select Filter". This will only show the clashes based on what's selected in the model.
