    Question ARGH. Scaling problem.

Hello I am very new to 3dsmax. And the first video tutorial I tried got me into some trouble. I think I pressed something wrong, because when I try to +scale an object in the X axis, it -scales the object in the Y and Z axis, I can't work like this ofcourse. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I think it's a problem with your axis constraints. Right-click on an empty portion of the toolbar and select Axis Constraints. Your problem lies in there... (I can't remember exactly how to do it off the top of my head)

The bueaty and curse of 3ds Max is in it's multiple options. The issue you were experiencing could be a number of things.

First, check to see which scale tool you are using (there are three). It sounds to me like you have the "Select and Squash" selected. Try the Uniform or Non-Uniform.

The other solution could be what Phillip is getting at. Max has a handy way of constraining axis by either highlighting them in the viewport (yellow means active) or throught the constraint buttons that you can have on your tool bar. It can take some getting used to.

    Good luck!
