Angry Revit to Max (minus mental ray?)

I've been struggling with this for a while. I'm trying to export a revit model into max but want the materials to come in a max 'standard' not MR.

I'm assuming this is impossible and you have to manually alter the materials in max?

Process - Revit export to .fbx, import to max, update map paths.

It all comes in perfect for MR renders, but, i'm working up a real time simulation in a games engine which cannot understand MR materials hence the need for them to be MAX 'standard'

Any help, at all, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

I think Ive seen some converter scripts running around that convert from on material system to another. I know there is one for VRay <> Mental Ray. I'd assume there are others as well...

Or you can create standard materials in max (by hand) with the exact same name as the MR materials, save them in a matlib and, after the fbx is loaded in max, put all materials from the matlib to the scene at once (this is a function in the material browser). All your MR materials will be overwritten.

    ...as a follow up:

Moves materials from one system to another.

Has anyone come across a script for Mental Ray to VRay. Our 3d guys use VRay and they have found the Revit to Max easier via dwg rather than FBX. If we could get FBX working it would be more efficient.

    thanks

I've done it both ways. There is about the same amount of work using FBX and DWG with Vray. Even if you do get the mental ray materials - they need plenty tweeking because of the limits of MR in Revit. They might be fine for a quick rendering, but really don't have the spit and polish needed for a top notch rendering. I actually mix dwg, fbx and even swap some items out to vray proxy objects.

With that said - there are scripts out there to do the conversion:
Haven't tried this one, but sounds like what you want:

I use V-Ray and export from Revit to Max in .dwg, mostly to be able to file link. The V-Ray group has been working on making Mental Ray Pro Materials compatible with V-Ray. They have not finished work on this, but hopefully it should come out soon. With that, there will be no need to convert materials from MR to VR, just hit render.

My workflow is to name the materials the same in Revit as in Max. Once I export to .dwg y select (using the select all materials button) the materials in max and change them to the VRay materials with the same name. After that any new filelink update maintains the the VRay materials.

That looks like the one from this site:
    http://www.motivacg.com/descargas_en.php

Unfortunately it does not work with MR Pro Materials.

Although on the bright side, they area developing a postproduction tool called SOAP, which looks pretty amazing!
