Default adding plate to underside of beam

i was just wondering if there is a way where you can add a flat plate to the underside of a beam to show steel picking up brick work ?

is it a way of editing the family or can you just draw it in on plan ?

    cheers for your help

I hope Im understanding what you need properly, however, if it was me I would use a face based plate (Place this under modelling>component) in your 3d view you just select the component under the modelling tab and hover over the underside face of the beam and this plate should attach onto that.

You will need to alter the dimensions on it once you've placed it to suit your plate size...
