    Default CODING ELEMENTS

We are importing Revit Arch into Navisworks to phase the construction.

Does anyone know how to give each element in Revit its own individual code. This way we can trace the description in N/works during phasing as one example.

We are also researching new software called Costx 3D which imports parametric objects and measures them.

In both progs we see significant benefits to coding of all Revit elements/components.

To date when exported we can see the "family name" and type.

Appears initially from web searches and Augi search that element/component coding is not a topic of demand? Would to discuss with anyone interested.

    Cheers

Revit as a program already gives each element a long (16 character) hexidecimal ID code automatically. Trying to get this exposed is another matter. Post something in the Revit API forum, since programmers have to deal with this searching to find the ID Code, to select a given element. It seems that they could run a small program, create a parameter, and place the element ID into this field. That sounds like what you want.

As an Architect, if I had to do this to a model manually, our firms fees would have to be tripled, or more to even contemplate some task like this. A better approach might be to get a set of worksets created, for more major "construction" sequences, and this might provide a little more of what you are looking for with a lot less effort.
