FWIW AutoCAD Architecture 2008 will not install on a x64 OS (XP, Vista or 7) without hacking up the msi using Orca. Link to the exact instructions of hacking the 2008 install in Orca.

OK, learning a bit more about W7, I guess this is the 7's anti-crash system? It opens a version of the program with each file?

    Only if SDI = 1.
    Or maybe TASKBAR = 1?

    Neither are unique to Win7

Both are set for 1. Also, on one computer, the user profile won't stay, but I need to check with IT and see if that's a network issue, because I don't think it's with the user's ACAD profile. I still need to check that though.

If SDI = 1, then AutoCAD can only load one drawing per session.

What about partialopen? could that have something to do with the ability to open multiple files (on a 64bit windows 7 setup)?

So is there another question, or are you just confirming that you understand?

I'm confirming that I have tried SDI in both modes, but Windows 7 will still crash after opening four or five drawings.
