Default UBUNTU Linux File Server for Revit & Autocad

Has anyone used UBUNTU Linux File server as the networking operating system to share Autocad and Revit Drawings?

Currently our company is using Windows Server 2003 on some projects (it works solid) but before we use to use Mac Tiger OSX server (not too stable on Autocad drawings). A lot of times Autocad drawings mysteriously became locked and they disappeared as if some one deleted them. But also Revit central files would become corrupt quite often.

A friend of mine told me that they have used UBUNTU Linux server for their accounting office that stores accounting data and documents. They have never had any crashes or data corruption. Bottom line UBUNTU is open source with unlimited CALS. Microsoft Servers are great but are expensive. UBUNTU networks well with Windows desktops.

I am happy to report that UBUNTU 9.04 64-bit server works as a File server
for Revit and Autocad. There are no file lock issues or permission issues.

Best of all UBUNTU Linux Server has no licensing costs and is easy to setup and use.

Was there anything special in setting this up?
