Default Hollow metal frame with 3 doors

I would like to make a hollow metal frame with 3 doors and tag each door individually. I can make the family but it only tags it once. Is this possible to do? The doors also need to be scheduled. Thanks!

Create a Family for the Frame. Then create a Family for the Door. In the Category and Family Parameters for the Door Family, turn on the Shared option. Load the Door into the Frame. Load the Frame into the Project. You should now get the nested doors showing up in schedules. You should be able to use Tab to select the individual doors for tagging as well, if I remember right.

Yes, use Nested and Shared Families, as tom has described. Be forewarned though, you will have FOUR doors to tag then: Panel 1, P2, P3, and Frame.

Thanks! Both of your responses helped. I was apply to create the nested family and tag the doors individually.

New problem. I now know why twiceroadsfool forwarned me about tagging 4 doors. I would like to not have the frame show up on the schedule as a seperate entry. The only thing I can think of is to make the frame with one of the doors as part of the family and then load the seperate door family twice. This would hopefully allow me to only have 3 doors on the schedule. Any thoughts? Is there a better way to do this?

    Thanks!

You can do it the way you described, or you can simply filter your schedule to not show the frame. If I was trying to accomplish this, I would probably do it the way you described.

Is there a problem with nested families and dimensioning? When I insert this triple frame with nested doors into my model and try moving it by editing the witness line dimensions the witness lines do not appear. If I put a dimesion sting from the edge of the door opening to the adjacent wall and then select then select the nested familiy to move, I can't enter a dimension. All my other doors in the model (which are just simple families) move just fine by editing the dimensions. Strange.

Sometimes you have to hit a button on the options bar: "Activate Dimensions." If that doesn't do it... maybe has something to do with the reference plane in the family.
