I have an in-place family of several different fascia trim pieces, and it seems like every time I click on Edit In-Place to edit the family, the model geometry shifts. I have shifted it back and forth numerous times! What could be causing this??

Pin the whole family, or the model geometry?
If I pin the family, then I can't edit it. If I pin the geometry, then I can't edit the geometry.
Sure would like to know why it shifts all over the place.
Yeah if I pin the entire family, then the Edit button is grayed out. The problem has been when hitting the Edit button, the geometry (or some of the geometry) shifts in some random direction.
Check to see if the linework in the family is constrained to some other geometry of the model. If the sketch was created by picking a path, etc., then that linework may be tracking along with other actions happening in the model. To check: just select each segment of the sketch and see if locks/green dashed indicators, etc appear. Or, simply delete each segment and recreate it, cleanly.
Hope that helps!
If you cut and paste it into a diff project does it still shift? Seems a bit strange.
I would consider cutting out of that project, see if it moves still, if it doesnt, paste it back in and see, if it does move, then maybe upload it and see if someone here can toy with it.
Make sure "Press & Drag" is unchecked. I have had a lot of users with similar problems and this seems to fix-it
Also, if you're using Revit 2010 and you have your Project Browser undocked, try redocking it, close Revit, reopen it, undock your PB (if you want) the problem should go away. There's a bug that is caused when you have the PB undocked - objects tend to "jump" around.
This may have nothing to do with what is going on in your situation.... but just in case.
Press & Drag always stays checked on my system, except for extraordinary cases when I'm window selecting while zoomed out and don't want to accidentally drag something. Press & Drag shouldn't cause things to shift when clicking the Edit In-Place button on the ribbon, though.
No, I keep the PB docked on my machine. Too scared to undock it.
