    Default regen control?

Is there any way to manually control when Revit regenerates to increase performance? For example, the way it's set up now if I change the view names in the project browser, it will regenerate the view's graphics, even though there's no reason to. This can take a lot of time, is there any way to manually tell it when to regen instead, or otherwise prevent unnecessary time-consuming regens?

Did you try having the view closed and change the info under the properties? Whenever I change just "background" info I go to just a drafting view close all open windows and do it throught the properties menu and it seems to go a little faster. I am not sure how much of the delay is the Regen or just the communicating with the central file.

I normally change the names from the drawing schedule that I have set up, without the views themselves open. I'm more interested really on how to control this for simple panning and zooming, where regens eats up even more of my time. I can see how the central file linking can slow things up like changing view names, but it seems like with zooming and panning it shouldn't have to regen or look back at the central file, or no?

Oh that is one of the wonderful mysteries of revit. You have no control as to when the regen takes place. Are you still on 2009 it is much slower than 2010 at this.

To fight against this use working views that are set to wireframe as opposed to hidden line. Good solution for modelling elements. I sometimes will also do annotation in my working view and just do a copy/paste align to the sheet view. That can get kind of confusing though so often I just change my sheet view to wireframe and change it back to hidden line when I'm done manipulating the view.

I'm in 2009 at the moment, although there is another project I'm doing in 2010. The wire frame view idea is a good one. I've also started using the temporary hide/isolate to speed things up. Any other ideas?

This is one of the biggest pieces of advice I try and give people. Unfortunately it seems to go largely unheeded. I actually turn all of the views to wireframe and then simply select all the views before i plot and change them back to hidden line. THis saves hours over the course of project, when you're panning and modeling.

I'm glad to see that you had the same experience.

We've got two views for each plan- "Working" and "Printing"

Lets us stay set up in wireframe at all times.
