Default Sweep Path in Plan and Elevation

Is it possible to create a sweep who's path is drawn in plan and elevation. I'm trying to create a frame that goes around a corner. The corners of the frame are mitered, so I need the sweep to be continuous. Is it possible to do this as one sweep? Or do I need to do make it with a combination of 2 sweeps and voids and join the separate geometries together?

It will depend on what you are trying to do but often the easiest way is to create a void form that has your desired path as its edges. You can then pick those edges as your path for the sweep.
