    Default Materials

My firm has been asked to perform a material takeoff due to a clients lack of manpower. Typically we do not do this or if we do it is because we are working in Revit. Is there anyway to perform this task without just going through sheet after sheet and counting each piece of hardware in AutoCAD 2010?

Depending on what objects you are attempting to count, you could use Data Extraction.

P.S. I'm moving this thread to an AutoCAD-specific forum.

I have to find all the hardware: hangers, clips, ties, ect.

Wasn't sure where to put the thread.

That's not the type of object to which I was referring. I'm talking about AutoCAD objects, e.g. lines, circles, block references.

That is what I thought. Data extraction is a nice feature and I will use it in the future but it does not help me in this case. Is there any other method that will allow me to get a count of materials?

Why will it not work in this case?

I need to find the quantity of the hardware listed above, the problem is that all of the components are not represented on the required page. I have to go into details to find what, where, spacing (for shear and stud walls) and site & factory designations.

If the objects aren't there, there is no way to count them.

I think I understand ur question,
If your hangers, clips, ties, and nails are blocks, then use "bcount"
to count your hardwares after purge your blocks.

That's the problem. The original poster does not have objects to count. There are details that show how the hangers are mounted and obviously document the spacing they should have, but on the plan drawings all the individual objects are not placed.
