Question A simple explanation for dim scaling?

Hi all - This may be a pretty basic question, but can someone either explain or point me to an explanation of all the variables that CAD uses to size dimensions, and which ones take precedence over another? I have two drawings that are both set to same 'overall scale factor = 1' on the 'fit' tab, same 'measurement scale = 1' on the 'primary units' tab (both in the dimstyle dialogue box). Also both drawing units are decimal. BUT - when drawing dimensions, the extension line ticks are way over-sized in one but not in the other. I've looked through all the properties of the dimensions and they seem the same, but obviously I'm missing something. And yes, I could just copy/paste from one drawing to another and match properties, but darn it, I want to understand what's going on. Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh yeah - all dimensions are in model space, and no, they're not annotative.

Not sure what you mean by Extension Line Tick but....
On the Symbols and Arrows tab, is the size of the "tick" (arrowhead) set the same in both drawings?

It might be the block definition used by the tick mark rather than the dimension variables.

Without answering the question - there is dimstyle export and dimstyle import in the express tools which would bypass the problem.

Thanks for the idea of using the express tools/dimstyle export - that's a new one for me.

I don't think the block definition is the problem since we're using the standard CAD 'architectural tick' for the arrowhead. And yes, the arrowhead sizes are the same in both drawings.

We have a VBA called 'setscale' that we use that sets dim, linetype, and hatch scales to match our viewport scales. Since I don't write VBA (and the person who did doesn't work here anymore) I don't know how to check it to see if it is changing any other variables. Hence my question about what variables are used by dimension scaling.
