Disable Shape Handle?

I understand that a shape handle appears for the family in a project because of an instance parameter that is controlling a dimension.

Is there any way to disable this so the shape handle grip does not appear?

It needs to be an instance parameter but the user doesn't need the ability to graphically pull the reference plane.

In the family file you can set the controling reference plane's properties to "not a reference". This will remove the shape handles when loaded into a project but still allow control via instance parameters.

Thanks for the reply. I think I have set as a weak reference so that explains it.

Fwiw...in the old days a weak reference would do it too...only a strong reference generated the grip. They changed it at some point, don't recall when but before 2009's version. Now as Steven wrote it must be Not a Reference to have that result. I liked it the old way.

For Revit 2016 > select Viewport > Properties > Edit Type > uncheck 'Show Extension Line' > set Show Title to 'No' > Ok
