    Question annotation items not visible

I'm sure this is an easy fix, but so far it continues to elude me. I have a mechanical floor plan with a linked architectural background. I want to be able to turn on and off the room tags. I can make it happen if I open the linked model itself so I know for sure this is the element/family type I am looking to control. In my project, in the mechanical floor plan view I open the view properties dialog and click on the edit visibility button and look at the annotation tab and all are turned on as visible. I am pretty sure this isn't a view range thing, I don't think this is a view template thing, so what am I missing

Just to clarify, are you trying to control annotation within the arch link? I do not believe you can do that as annotation is not technically part of the model. The best practice is to create spaces which will draw from the link, and then create tags from that.

However, if you want to control model items in the link, you can do that through visibility/graphics and go to the "Revit Links" tab. Just set the model to "custom" visibility.

Annotations are view specific. If you want to see the exact Arch tags, you have to specify the exact Arch view, in RVT links.

Do as mjdanowski says and create your own.

Understood, and thanks for the advice. As I don't have a hard copy of the linked model, the only way I can see the room tags is by making them visible in the view I am using to create my spaces. If that is not possible then I will have to open the architectural linked model itself and switch back and forth to be able to name my spaces correctly - bit of a pain no?. Then again, perhaps I should do like was suggested and have my space creation view and an architectural plan view open and tiled. While we are on the subject of creating my own room tags, I was wondering if it is possible to just copy the ones in the linked model into my project, perhaps using copy/monitor to make sure I am always up to date.

Nope, rooms don't exist in Revit MEP, you'd have to create spaces. In 2010, they have the "place spaces automatically" tool, which is nice. I still haven't gotten the Space Naming Utility to work correctly in 2010 though. My arch link is set to room bounding but it still won't read the room names. It is a mystery....

Ray, now that you know the direction you must take to generate room names in the MEP model, you might try searching the Forums for specific key words related to that because I know this has been discussed several times before. Sorry I don't have the links handy, but it shouldn't be hard to hit on a couple that go into detail of the workflow. Matter of fact, I'm sure Kyle Bernhardt or one of the other gurus here posted the procedure on their blog(s), because I took a lot of interest in them as we had similar concerns and questions about how to handle the situation as well. Good luck!

Technically Rooms do exist in RME. You can place rooms but Spaces are the intended "tool" for RME.
