Unhappy Rendering Issues - Materials don't show up as Transparent

I've added materials that have transparencies set, yet when I go to render them they still come out as opaque. Last time I used AutoCAD to render was version 14 and now I'm working with AutoCAD 2009 so there is a steep learning curve it feels to me.

I've tried playing with the light sources but that doesn't seem to affect the materials.

What I'm trying to do is to show the different levels of core samples of boreholes going through the ground surface at angled depth. I've attached the drawing for ease of playing and viewing. It's a simple and crude model for conceptual purposes.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
