    Question Control of Ceiling Patterns

    Hello All,
I have some ceiling patterns that I can't hide/control. I have an Arch. Model Linked in to my MEP model. I know I should be able to control the appearance of the ceiling patterns through the Revit links tab in Visibility Graphics, using the custom settings. Unfortunately this isn't solving the problem.

Upon further investigation, They have edited the "materials" while defining the "structure" of the different ceilings to apply a pattern. They have a tongue and grove ceiling, and gypsum ceilings that are quite distracting while trying to do a lighting layout. Does anyone know how I can turn off their patterns in my MEP file?

    Thanks,
    David Raynor

You should be able to use the "TAB" key to highlight the offending ceiling pattern in a linked file. Select it and Hide "Element(s) or Hide Categorie

You can try: VG > Model Categories > Ceilings > Projection/Surface > Patterns and clear the Visible toggle.

    Hope this helps.

Ah, yes, I can make the ceilings invisible, but that is not the goal, well, sort of not the goal. If I make the ceilings hidden or invisible, then my face based lights will not see it to host to. I could make them hidden and add a workplane, but then they won't be at the various heights of the different ceilings. So I can't "hide" them, but I do need the Pattern to go away...

Does that make it clear as mud?

    Thanks

    David,
Matt's suggestion below is the correct method. You can remove the visibility of the Pattern on the Ceiling Category, and still place your Face-Hosted Familes on the Ceiling.

I tested this on my Linked Model "sandbox" project, and it worked like a charm. I don't think you need to mess with the Linked Visibility just for this reason, you could just apply it on the Host. But if you have other existing overrides for the Linked Model, you'll need to apply the Visibility Setting to the Link.

    Cheers,
    Kyle B

Talking Re: Control of Ceiling Patterns

Okay, yep, that worked. I had two other complications going on. The pattern I was seeing was actually an exposed roof pattern on the inside, and the gyp. ceiling pattern I was seeing was in an Autocad file (from the DD set done in Autocad) someone (myself) had attached to recreate the lighting layout.

    Thanks for the help,
    David Raynor
