Default Copy Central file as stand alone file.

The owner and PM have come up with this new design that is going to drastically change my model. I would like to copy my central file and not have it linked so that I can make changes that will not affect my central file model. Can anyone tell me the process of doing this before I mess up my central file? I am working in 2009 for this project as well.

You can't change a workset enabled file to a non workset enabled file, worksets are a one way trip. But you can Save As and make the new file a new central. This will disconnect you from the other central file, and you can then make a new local from that. Now you have two centrals, two locals and no unfortunate interactions.

File > Save As > Options Button > "Make a central File".

It will make it a NEW central file, divorced from the old one. It will never be a "standalone" file again, but it can be a completely seperate, entirely different central file.

The previous post was made in 2009 so you've responded to a very stale thread. Using Detach from Central is a valid way to remove worksets from a project. Once that has been done it cannot be reconnected to a different Central File, it can only be turned into a new and different Central File on its own.

Using Detach from Central is a irreversable decision, regardless of which of its two options you choose.
