    Default Borrowed Elements

One of my coworkers ran into an interesting problem. When he opened his local file, about 10 fire protection elements (sprinkler piping, heads, and equipment) were being borrowed by default. He could not relinquish the elements by saving to central or clicking relinquish all mine. Since he was always borrowing these elements nobody else can open there local file. He deleted these elements and the problem went away, but we are still confused to why this was happening.

    Any Ideas?

    Ya, that sounds...whats the word...expected.

Nothing like those fee chewing dead times where the whole team comes to a stand still.
The team has to take a huge step back only to move temporarily forward again.

We have so many problems with central files that we try to avoid them.

We can't figure out why those issues always surface. I can't point you in the right direction, I can only relate.

I've found that sometimes Revit won't relinquish when you tell it to. Usually if you STC your local, close your local, then open the central file directly, you can successfully relinquish from the central file. I've seen this more with 2009 that 2010.

They tried that. They even created a new central model and the problem would not go away.

This project, is it using worksets? nThere's new thinking from the factory on this in 2010.

Just out of interest, are you in New York or LA office?

Yeah they are using worksets. I think it is just a glitch. The issue was resolved by deleting the elements but I was just curious if anyone had any idea why this was happening.

I am out of the NY office.
