Smile Pipe Types - Define Tee AND Tap?

Is there a reason to define both a tee and a tap for a pipe type? It seems that by picking a preferred junction type that is the only one that gets used.

I suppose my underlying question is this: is there a way to have Revit pick a tap instead of the preferred tee junction given the main and branch pipe sizes? In particular, if the difference between the main and branch size is large I'd like a tap instead of a tee (e.g. given a 14" main and a 4" branch - tap, 14" main and branch - tee)

And for that matter, there isn't a pipe tap in the OOTB content? And I didn't see tap as a fitting type in the family category for pipe fittings? Are pipe taps even possible?

    No.
You cannot define fittings dependent on pipe/duct size.

Create a Pipe type with a tee and name it as such.

Then duplicate it, change the preferred tee to a tap, and edit the name to reflect that.

You will have a choice of pipes in the type selector when you click the Pipe tool.
