    Exclamation help

    Hi,

I am trying to build a 3D perspective view of a proposed road project for a presentation. I have successfully created a surface of existing ground and a road corridor that involved cut and fill areas. The problem is when i try to render the 3D perspective view, only the fill areas of the road corridor are shown. At the cut areas, the existing ground are visible and not the roadway. How do i tell the program that i want to show the whole roadway (i.e. fill and cut areas) and the existing ground also.

    Thank you.

You have a couple of options.

Old school copy your existing ground model and use the
edit surface command to PASTE the new surface into the
    old one.

New School use the surface MASK tool in 3d to place a
mask over the Exisitng surface at the daylight lines of the
proposed. I believe this is the new preferred method.

    From the Help file:

    Masking:
Mask Type Specifies the mask type:

Inside: Creates an inside mask, which clips and hides the area inside the parcel or polygon area.
Outside: Creates an outside mask, which clips and hides the area outside the parcel or polygon area.
Render Only: Creates a render-only mask with the specified render material style applied to the inside of the parcel or polygon.

    Hi

Thank you for your reply. i have tried but the daylight feature lines of the corridor are polylines (after export) and cannot be jointed to form a closed polygone that is needed for the mask. unless i explode the polyline to become normal line and joint each section manually with PEDIT comment. This method seem to be quite troublesome. is there any better way.

    Thank you very much again.

    OK, then find your Corridor,
right-click on it and select Properties
Go about 6 Tabs to the right and find Boundaries
and select the proper Boundary that represents the limits of
your corridor (to create the render mask)
Hit apply and use this newly minted boundary
    during the Mask command.

    All should be well.
