Default Revit MEP launches when I click on a RAC project

I've installed RAC, RST & RMEP all on a new computer. It seems that the last application you install will be the one that launches when you click on a RVT file. How do I control which flavor of Revit launches when I click on a Revit project or family?

You should never click on a project/family. From what I know the last flavor loaded will open including a different version (2010).

ow..ok....so I would have to reinstall Revit Architecture. That might work.

It's not always the last installed. If you have a service pack or anything else, that can change it too.

Not to mention, if you're like me, you might have 2009 and 2010 on your machine.

In general, you're always best to either open Revit first or drag the file to the icon for the flavor & version that you want. That way, you control what happens, not whatever mood the Windows Registry is in.

This is a pet peeve of mind...NEVER double-click on any Autodesk file...period. You just can't predict the results you will get. Always open the product first, then navigate to the file you want to open.

People I deal with love to double-click files...in Windows Explorer, in their email, on their desktop, whatever...because "it's faster!" Well that all depends on whether or not the product you want or expect opens now doesn't it lol? Depending on the number of Autodesk products you have installed, the version of each, and which was last run, will determine what opens when you double-click that file. I tend to go into a long explanation of swap files, temp files, where the product stores them, and should the product crash, you may be SOL trying to find where the product automatically saved it.

You can obviously take your chances, and people still do, but it's generally best practice to open ALL software first, then the file.

Double clicking is always a terrible idea, particularly with large files with many worksets and many links. Did it specify? Open All? Load every Link? And if someone does it and the wrong version starts to open (with all the links) youre sitting and waiting for an instance of every link to upgrade...
