Default using revit api for mathematical operations

i've got the 2010 api reference open and am getting through the getting started guide, but knowing whether i'll have to develop the means to perform operations with the variables i'll have would be nice.

if the api doesn't make any of the revit mathematical operations available, is there a best practices guide? can i find it within the sdk? thanks in advance.

Can you be a bit more specific about what you are trying to do because what you have written is a bit vague (to me anyway)
