Default Better control of the huge volume of backup files

Wouldn't it be grand if there was better control built-in to Revit to manage the overwhelming quantity of backup folders/files? I'm not speaking on single user files with redundant copies appended with 0001, 0002 etc. which we know can be controlled by specifying the number of backups under Save Options, but multi-user workset collaborations (recurrent theme with my posts isn't it!). Seems there are is inordinate amount of data space consummed by backups, each a single instance in a single cryptically labelled folder.

Currently both local files and central files of projects are saved to our server. It was suggested that as an interim work-around we keep local files on local drives and only central files on the server. Still doesn't address the space consumption since we'll just redistribute it across 26 workstations instead of 1 massive server.....

Thumbs down Re: Better control of the huge volume of backup files

You should try talking to Autodesk, apparently those folders are a "black box" and you don't need to know what's in them or what you can do with them.
