Default Revit and daylight factor calculations

Is there a software package out there that can calculate daylight factors in the revit model without needing to export the model or build a calculation model in another package like ecotect etc ?

As long as daylight factors are calculated I'm happy. Thermal modelling, ventilation modelling etc can all be undertaken by M&E consultants using their various specialist software packages but getting early feedback on daylight factors in the design is critical for me.

What exactly do you mean by Daylight Calculation Factors. Is that the ratio of glass to area of room? If so then you might want to check out this link.

    Phillip,

Thanks for the link which was useful.
The link explains how to calculate glass area of windows.

What I'm after is a solution that calculates daylight factors which is to do with quantifying the amount of daylight in spaces.

Have attached a pdf explaining daylight factors.

    Mies,
The closest you will get to an directly integrated analysis plug-in for Daylight Factors in Revit is the IES VE Sustainability or LEED Toolkits. They run directly on top of Revit and deliver results regarding daylighting levels. I don't know for sure if they deliver the Daylioght Factor results you're seeking. I'm sure you can find out if you ask them.

Beyond that type of a direct plug-in, you'll need to transfer your model to either 3DS Max, Ecotect, or IES VE-Pro. For 3DS Max, the means will be an FBX file transfer. For Ecotect or IES VE-Pro, you'll want to use gbXML or potentially DXF (gbXML preferred).

I completely understand your desire for an integrated daylighting analysis capability, and you're not the first person to ask about it. This is something we're investigating for future capability, but no guarantees.

    Cheers,
    Kyle B

Kyle, Thanks for the info. What you mention above would be awesome and well worth the subscription fee.

Have looked at the IES website, and their LEED toolkit for the India market seems to have a daylight factor module. I will ask them for more details.

    Thanks again.
