    Default modify file associations

In an explorer window > Tools > Folder Options > File Types > highlight DWG in list, > Advanced > highlight OPEN > Edit... > (If open isn't there use New.. to create it.)

    check that - Application used to perform action: = "C:\Program Files\AutoCADversion\acad.exe" "%1".

check that - "Use DDE" is checked.

    check that - "DDE Message:" = [open("%1")]
I can't see an equivalent in Win_7 - has anyone else found it?

This is the closest I have found -

In Windows Vista and 7, right-click on a file that is the type you want to associate to a program. In the dialog box either select the program or use the "Browse" button to locate the program. Make sure that "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is checked.

Thanks Glenn - that's exactly the same functionally (via a different route) and gives no ability to control DDE or to add functions like "plot".

If you need those other features the following might be of help. Its a blog post describing different programs that allow you to change those settings.

    Slightly connected -
In Windows 7 explorer, on the menu bar, the second button is "Open" and it has a drop-down list so you can pick any installed programme (like different acad.exe versions).
